Because CannaPal stores your data on your device, backups aren’t an afterthought — they’re how you keep your grow history safe and move it where you need it. The good news: it’s simple, and your backups are entirely yours.
Backing up your data
From your profile, you can export a backup — a single .cannapal file containing everything: your plants, logs, photos, seed bank, locations, and settings. Photos are included right in the file, so a backup is genuinely complete, not just the text.
You choose where the file goes — your device storage, a cloud drive, wherever you like. We never receive a copy; it’s your file to keep.
A good habit: export a backup periodically, and definitely before switching phones or reinstalling. It takes seconds and it’s the safety net behind a local-first app.
Restoring on a device
To bring your data back — on the same phone or a new one — use Restore from a backup in your profile and choose your .cannapal file. CannaPal reads it back in, photos and all, and your garden is right where you left it.
Moving from the web app
If you used the original CannaPal web app, you can bring your data over to mobile. In the web app’s profile, under Data & Storage, use the Download for Mobile option. It gathers everything — your plants, logs, seed bank, photos, and feed charts — and produces a .cannapal file in the same format the mobile app restores from.
Move that file to your phone, then use Restore from a backup in the mobile app to import it. Your full history, including images and feed charts, comes across.
A couple of things worth knowing about the migration:
- Photos and feed charts come too. The export pulls your images so your visual history isn’t left behind.
- Pro status doesn’t transfer. Mobile Pro is unlocked through a Google Play purchase, so it isn’t carried over from the web — it’s a separate, one-time unlock on mobile.
Your data, your control
The throughline of all of this: your CannaPal data belongs to you and lives with you. You can back it up, move it, and delete it entirely (from within the app, or by uninstalling) whenever you choose. Nothing is locked away on a server you can’t reach.
